DNR Charts on Antler Points

antler point restriction by eco region

Bill Moritz

August 9, 1999

Average percentage (and range) of yearling bucks protected by various antler point restriction rules in the three regions of Michigan, 1987-98. A yearling buck is approximately 18 months of age at time of harvest. Information derived from deer check station data from all hunting seasons. A rule requiring at least 3 points on one side would protect animals with 4 total points or less, since an animal with 5 total points would have at least 3 points on one side.
